In the middle of hectic Tsim Sha Tsui
a spot of tranquility hides.
Scultptures, trees and tai chi.
Birds and benches. Turtles in a pond.
And a rainbow in the fountain.
This is one of my poems. I wrote it while I was in Hong Kong. To me, poetry can be magical. And it also makes for good exercise to put your thoughts into words. That’s why I love it, and want to share that passion with the world. This year, I started a project I call A Poem Each Day. Simply by publishing a poem each day on my blog.
But I want more. Even when I was little, I had a fascination for the written word. I loved reading, but also making little magazines. Later in life, I ended up taking a bachelor’s degree in the art of publishing. All the while, I dreamt of my name on a published paper book. As the author, of course. This year I will make that happen. From the poems I write this year, I will select some and publish them in book-form. And you can be part of that dream!
Be part of my Poetry Book Dream
Just as I like to share my poetry, I like to share making my dream come true. That’s why I’ve started this crowd funding campaign, so you can be part of my Poetry Book Dream.
For an initial run of 1000 copies, I need 5000 US Dollar, which will include some design work for the cover. To become part of my dream, all you need to do is help fund that initial print run.
If you support me in publishing the book, you'll get something in return. More than words alone. Just have a look in the 'Perks for your contribution' section to the right to find the perk that looks best to you. If you contribute the amount linked to a perk, you get it. It starts already at $8, which will get you a mention on the website and in the book. I will include a section (both on the website and in the book) in which people who made the book possible will be thanked.
As an example of what you can expect: this is one of the postcards with a handrwitten poem, selected by one fo the funders.

The book will be published by the end of the year. However, if I reach my fundraising goal here, I will do so in the summer already. By then, I have written enough poems to select the best 80-100 poems.
Let others become part of my dream, too!
You have read this far, which, I will conclude, means you have a thing for poetry. Apart from funding this campaign, you can be of great help by sharing it with your friends. This campaign, but also, of course, the A Poem Each Day website. Whether you do that on Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter, email, Google Plus, or simply over drinks in a bar, every share is very much appreciated! You can easily share this campaign by using the options in the box above.
A little extra about the perks
For clarification: in the perks, I am talking about a series named after you (or a loved one, or your company). There is some flexibility in there. One option is to have the name in the post title. For example: 'The Arjan series: Title of poem'. Another one is to have your name/logo in the first part of the post text: "This poem is made possible through the generous support of ..." If you select one of these perks, I will contact you to work out the details.
