Hi everyone,

The picture before you is of me...

it gives you a visual to sort of relate to how I frequently feel when I'm looking for clothing that will express who I am on the inside. I am not alone.

My name is Karen Roberts and I am co- owner of a business in Northern California. During the day, I work as a Realtor. I spend my evenings and weekends sketching and designing clothes that myself and my peers would love to be able to wear.

I am a professional woman that meets with the daily challenge of deciding what clothing I will wear to work each day to meetings or trainings that outwardly express who I am internally.I want my clothes to be better designed, self expressive and work for my lifestyle.

 The Concept

Who is the Butch by Design Client?

The woman I design for loves who she is, she's proud and strong but maybe her oversized, drab colored, menswear doesn't show it. Or maybe she loves clothes, but she wants to live more consciously. Maybe she's always complaining about not having anything to wear even though she has a closet full of stuff, or maybe she's feeling her sense of confidence is drowning in the only fashion that she can ALMOST relate to. Butch by Design was designed to bridge the gap for these women, between their selves, styles, lifestyles, and values. To be honest, Butch by Design was designed with me in mind. I am that woman. And I know she might be you too or someone that  you know. Let's empower these women!

The Impact

There is an absence in the marketplace right now for women that are in search of stylish, great fitting fashions. Women are reduced to buying over sized, boxy, men's clothing that lack the fit and accentuation of a woman's body. The result is a lack of the outward confidence that these women identify with inside themselves. They are proud, capable women that are in need of their own unique fashion expression.

Currently, there are women begging for their own butch clothing stores where they can purchase the type of clothing that make them look and feel great!

The creation of Butch by Design can strengthen and empower butch women in their communities and in the workplace By providing forward thinking fashion and style. After all, if we look confident and successful- we behave in that manner.



The Funding

A portion of the money raised from this campaign will be used to complete the infrastructure of the company that has been funded through boot- strap methods to this point. It will fund more prototypes and most importantly the manufacturing of those pieces. Some of the funds raised will go towards the leasing of a small space for operations and storage of the product line. A small portion of the funds will go toward a fashion shoot in which to feature the collection to buyers.

Phase II: Launch Stage

Once the Butch by Design Fashions have been manufactured, the collection will launch phase will be staggered. Beginning with online sales and fullfillment for revenue, the focus will be expanded to include the creation of the pop up onsite stores. The ultimate dream is to create a brand of fashions that are visible on the Logo Network,at the annual Dinah Shore, Women's Weekend's, Pride Festivals, Film Festivals and Cruises throughout North America.
