We Are Cloudscape Comics

 

The Cloudscape Comics Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting comics creators in British Columbia. We have weekly gatherings, run events, and make books. We offer our members access to a local distribution network, and information about and access to printers and other services to support their independent comics endeavours. 

 

We have produced a comics anthology every year for the past five years. Our newest book is Giants of Main Street. It will be a giant-sized 150-page book featuring work from 25 local artists and writers. The contributors involved include Edison Yan (Scribblenauts), John Christmas (Spectre of Sound), Rebecca Dart (Rabbithead, Battle Kittens), Colin Upton (Diabetes Funnies), Steve LeCouilliard (Much the Miller's Son), and Jonathon Dalton (Lords of Death and Life). Giants of Main Street is a collection of fantasy stories set in an urban environment. It will be our best book yet. The stories are finished and the book is in the process of being designed. All we need is the money to print it!

 

In past years Cloudscape has depended largely on donations from our own contributing artists to fund each book. We want to change that. Our contributors have already pledged $1000 towards the printing of Giants, but with your help, we can make this project self-sustaining and move our creators closer to being payees rather than payers.

What We Need

The cost to print 1000 copies of Giants of Main Street will be $4000. With the money we've already raised, we need $3000 more to get there. Our 25 contributors have already donated a lot of time, effort, and energy to this project. One way or another we will find a way to print this book, but by funding a 1000-copy offset press run with a professional printer, we can deliver them (and you!) the high-quality perfect-bound book that these stories deserve. Printing 1000 copies will make the books cost effective enough that we can sell them to book stores, provide our contributors with copies that they can sell at comic conventions, and help Cloudscape promote our talented members to the wide world. Having our creators in print will also give them a publishing credit, a crucial necessity to apply for Literary Grants from the Government of Canada and British Columbia.

 

 

What You Get

 

Giants of Main Street is going to be a fantastic book with fourteen original and intriguing stories, plus loads of additional art and a cover drawn by Steve LeCouilliard and Anise Shaw. This book alone is a worthwhile reward. But with five previous years' worth of work under our belts, it's not the only perk to choose from. We have lots of books that you can own, artists ready and willing to draw commissions, and ebook versions of our three most recent anthologies. Your donation can support some of Vancouver's talented creators, support independent publishing, AND win you some great reading material.
